π 1οΈβ£ How Does the Naturalization Test Work?
The citizenship test has two main parts:
π English Test
- Oral Comprehension: The USCIS officer will ask questions about your application.
- Reading: You must correctly read one sentence in English.
- Writing: You must correctly write one sentence in English.
πΊπΈ Civics Test
- The officer will ask 10 questions selected from a list of 100.
- You need to answer 6 out of 10 correctly to pass.

The test questions are divided into different categories:

- What is the supreme law of the land?

- What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

- Name one of the two longest rivers in the United States.

π― 3οΈβ£ Test Exceptions and Exemptions
Some applicants may qualify for exemptions or accommodations:
πΉ Age + Length of Residency:
- 50 years old + 20 years as a legal resident: Can take the civics test in their native language.
- 55 years old + 15 years as a legal resident: Can take the civics test in their native language.
- 65 years old + 20 years as a legal resident: Takes a reduced test (20 questions instead of 100).
πΉ Medical Disabilities:
- Applicants with physical, developmental, or mental disabilities may request an exemption from the language and/or civics test requirements.
- A licensed medical professional must complete Form N-648 certifying the applicantβs medical condition.
