🏛 1️⃣ How Does the Naturalization Test Work?

The citizenship test has two main parts:

📖 English Test

  • Oral Comprehension: The USCIS officer will ask questions about your application.
  • Reading: You must correctly read one sentence in English.
  • Writing: You must correctly write one sentence in English.

🇺🇸 Civics Test

  • The officer will ask 10 questions selected from a list of 100.
  • You need to answer 6 out of 10 correctly to pass.

  • Who was the first President of the United States?
    • Answer: George Washington
  • What did the Declaration of Independence do?

🌎 Geography

  • What is the capital of the United States?
    • Answer: Washington, D.C.
  • Name one of the two longest rivers in the United States.

🎯 3️⃣ Test Exceptions and Exemptions

Some applicants may qualify for exemptions or accommodations:

🔹 Age + Length of Residency:

  • 50 years old + 20 years as a legal resident: Can take the civics test in their native language.
  • 55 years old + 15 years as a legal resident: Can take the civics test in their native language.
  • 65 years old + 20 years as a legal resident: Takes a reduced test (20 questions instead of 100).

🔹 Medical Disabilities:

  • Applicants with physical, developmental, or mental disabilities may request an exemption from the language and/or civics test requirements.
  • A licensed medical professional must complete Form N-648 certifying the applicant’s medical condition.
